The Megger PVM210 (1002-548) Irradiance Meter provides solar and photovoltaic engineers with a compact, pocket-sized instrument that is easy to use. Single-handed operation is possible due to the solar detector and meter being housed in one neat unit. This housing feature is ideal when using the instrument on a sloping roof or at the top of a ladder.
With the easy-to-read display and measurement hold feature, the meter gives fast and accurate readings of solar power for initially choosing an optimum position for the photovoltaic panel. In addition, the PVM210 can provide the vital measurement for the calculation of short circuit currents in conjunction with a suitable ammeter to verify the stated short circuit current provided by the manufacturer of the panel.
Operation of the Megger PVM210 (1002-548) Irradiance Meter is simple and precise. To operate the instrument, the user can simply power the device on with the large power button. At startup, the instrument will display measurements in Watts per Square Meter (W/m²). If the user requires measurements to be in British Thermal Units (BTU), a simple press of the UNIT button switches this over. Measurements of solar power can then be obtained by positioning the meter with the detector pointing towards the sky at a 90 degree angle to the position of the solar panel being tested. On the rear of the meter is an universal camera thread that allows for mounting to obtain precise readings, if required. To easily read obtained measurements, the user can retain the display via the HOLD button.
To prolong battery life, the PVM210 includes an auto power-off function. Proper usage of the meter can result in a battery life of approximately 50 hours for continuous usage out in the field.
