The Optical Wavelength Labs WaveTester VFL (WT-1V) is a highly accurate hand-held optical power meter, capable of performing a wide range of functions from simple optical power and loss measurements to full-featured standards-based link certification. When used with OWL WaveSource fiber optic light sources (sold separately), the WaveTester VFL provides fiber optic professionals with automatic wavelength switching so that the power meter and light source are always set to the same wavelength, while automatic dual-wavelength storage cuts down on testing time and human error. Up to 200 fiber runs can be stored in the WaveTester's memory, which can be downloaded to a PC using FREE OWL Reporter software via the supplied download cable. A 2.5mm universal and 1.25mm universal connector port are included to connect to a wide variety of popular fiber optic connectors, including SC, ST, FC, LC, MU, and other SFF.

The WaveTester VFL Optical Power Meter has a 65dB dynamic range, and is NIST traceable at 850, 1300, 1310, and 1550nm, making it ideal for both singlemode and multimode fiber testing. Additionally, it comes calibrated at 1490nm, allowing the meter to measure optical loss at the wavelengths used in Fiber To The Home (FTTH) PON networks.

The WaveTester VFL has an attractive handheld case with a backlit, graphic, liquid crystal display, and 4-key keypad for easy operation. It can operate for over 250 hours on its re-chargeable Lithium Polymer battery, and has built-in auto shutdown.

The WaveTester VFL has been configured with a precision-coupled visual fault locator that is optimized for fiber optics. Its high-intensity red laser allows for fiber identification up to 1.5 kilometers away. This VFL port can also be used to check for faults within a few feet of its launch point. When the bright red light encounters a fault, the light is deflected into the jacket, producing a red glow at the point of the fault.
