The Tektronix TBS1052C 50 MHz, 2-Channel, 1 GS/s Digital Storage Oscilloscope offers affordable performance in a compact form-factor. It is designed to meet the needs of today's educational institutions, embedded design engineers, and the maker community. This instrument comes complete with a 7-inch WVGA color display and a five-year warranty. It also includes an innovative courseware system that integrates the lab exercises with step-by-step instructions for use by students. The HelpEverywhere system provides useful tips and hints throughout its user interface, to make the TBS1052C more approachable to new users.

Designed to help users learn and work faster

The TBS1052C Oscilloscope is designed for quick hands-on learning and easy operation, with just the right combination of features and capabilities. Dedicated, front panel controls provide easy access to all of the most important user settings. The graticule with 10 vertical divisions and 15 horizontal divisions enables users to see more signals per screen. The large, on-screen menus with clearly labeled and colored information make it easy to navigate and find information of interest or use. The zoom function allows users to quickly pan through a record and zoom in, in order to see signals in even greater detail.

Versatile triggering and acquisition modes

The trigger system is designed for troubleshooting today's mixed signal designs. Beyond a basic edge trigger, it also includes pulse width and runt triggering, which are especially useful for troubleshooting any digital sections that the user designs.

Pulse width triggering is perfect for hunting narrow glitches or time out conditions. Meanwhile, runt trigger captures signals that might be shorter in amplitude than expected.

The TBS1052C Oscilloscope offers several acquisition modes - its default is Sample Mode, which works well for most applications. The Peak Detect Mode is useful for hunting spikes, while Average Mode can help reduce noise on repetitive signals.

Automated measurements and analysis

The TBS1052C comes with a comprehensive set of automated measurements that enable fast and convenient testing of a wide variety of signal conditions for different applications. They are grouped into four categories: Frequency, Time, Amplitude, and Area. All measurements are displayed on a single measurement selection screen, making it easy to choose from 32 automated measurements - no more hunting through various menus.

Measurements are also color-coded by the source and are presented on a transparent background. This is to prevent waveforms from being obscured by readouts.

FFT function

Users can understand the frequency content of their signals with the FFT function by pressing the FFT button on the front-panel. Users can choose to display only the FFT, or else turn on the source waveform display so they can see both the frequency and the time domain waveform. A transparent readout will show important settings without blocking the FFT display.

HelpEverywhere

The HelpEverywhere system provides help text with graphics to explain the different TBS1052C settings, making it easier for new users to know which measurement to use and interpret the results. Help is provided in the same language as the user interface.

Features such as Autoset, Cursors, and automated measurements can be disabled on the instruments. By disabling features, students can learn basic concepts; better understand how to use the horizontal and vertical controls to get the waveform; use the graticule to measure time and voltage; and manually plot/calculate signal characteristics.

The integrated Courseware function allows professors to load lab exercises straight onto any TBS1052C instrument. This enables them to give guidance to students at each station and provides a structured framework with which students can capture data to incorporate into their reports. Over 100 sample lab exercises are available for download from the Tektronix Courseware Resource Center.

Flexible data transfer

The USB host port on the front of the TBS1052C scope makes it easy to save instrument settings, screenshots, and waveform data on a USB flash drive.

TekScope

TekScope software expands TBS1052C's capabilities by enabling users to easily transfer data directly from the DSO to a PC for offline analysis.

PC connectivity

Easily capture, save, and analyze measurement results by connecting any PC to the USB device port on the rear of the TBS1052C, then using the OpenChoice PC Communications Software available on the Tektronix website. Simply pull screen images and waveform data into the stand-alone desktop application or directly into Microsoft Word and Excel.

Kickstart

Kickstart software allows users to have the bench instrument control, automated data, and measurement logging capabilities of multiple instruments, including the TBS1052C Oscilloscope. The data they collect can be charted to get further insight, or exported in multiple formats for further analysis.

Performance users can count on

Tektronix has industry-leading service and support. Every TBS1052C Oscilloscope is backed with a standard five-year warranty.
