The Megger S1-568 (1003-019) Digital DC Insulation Resistance Tester is a 5 kilovolt model, top end instrument that is ideal for power utilities and service companies working in generation, transmission, and distribution markets. The high charge current, noise rejection level of 8 milliamps, and user-selectable software filters make the S1-568 a truly advanced DC insulation resistance tester.
Instrument productivity is the leading focus of the S1-568 in which rapid charging Li-ion batteries and operation from an AC source when the battery is flat is included. Fully charged, these batteries provide up to 6 hours of testing. With only 30 minutes of charging from flat, the batteries provide one hour of testing time. The intuitive user interface ensures that there is no time lost in remembering how to operate the tester. Operation is simple with two large rotary switches and a large backlight display which enables multiple results to be displayed simultaneously. A graphical quick start guide is provided inside the lid of the tester to assist first-time users.
Safety of operation is built into the S1-568 Digital DC Insulation Resistance Tester. This model is safety rated to CAT IV 600V up to 3000 meters of altitude. The high short-circuit current of 6 milliamps ensures rapid charging of items under test. The remote control feature of the unit allows users to automate resistance testing on the factory floor. This feature is ideal for original equipment manufacturers and repairers operating from a distance, along with technicians in substations who wish to operate from a more convenient and safe distance away.
The S1-568 has a dual case design with a tough outer case that protects the tester from knocks and drops, and an inner case that is fire retardant. The case's IP rating of IP65 prevents moisture and dust ingress when storing or carrying the instrument. The lid of the S1-568 has clip-on lead pouches that ensure that the leads remain with the instrument at all times. The case lid is removable for improved access to the terminals.
Five preset voltage ranges are provided in insulation test mode along with an user-settable lock voltage range. Preconfigured diagnostic tests include timed and standard Insulation Resistance (IR), Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), Dielectric Discharge (DD), Stepped Voltage (SV), and Ramp diagnostic tests. Along with these tests, a dedicated voltmeter function is built into the instrument. Advanced memory storage includes time and date stamping of results, logging of data, and recall of results to the screen. A fully isolated USB interface or on-board Bluetooth interface can be used for safe transfer of data to Megger’s asset management software, PowerDB Pro.
PI Predictor Function (PIp)The Polarization Index test can be time consuming with tests taking up to 30 minutes to complete along with multiple items needing to be tested. The PI Predictor Function (PIp) aids the user in saving precious time. The PIp uses the first part of the IR curve to predict the rest at 5 minutes into the test. This function can start as early as 3 minutes in the test and will stop once it is confident in the prediction.
